WORLD LEPROSY DAY 2023

World Leprosy Day (WLD) is celebrated on the last Sunday of January every year. In 2023, World Leprosy Day is Sunday 29 January. This international day is an opportunity to celebrate people who have experienced leprosy, to raise awareness of the disease, and call for an end to leprosy-related stigma and discrimination.

The theme of World Leprosy Day 2023 is “Act Now. End Leprosy.”

Leprosy Awareness Program in association with D D Medical Services (Leprosy) and Department of Dermatology,
Dr Jeyasekharan Hospital and Nursing Home & College of Nursing was conducted on 30 th January 2023 from 10.30 am to 12 pm. The Chief Guest of the Program was Hon. Mr M Arvind, IAS, District Collector, Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu.

The program was started by welcome dance performed by B. Sc. Nursing II year students of Dr Jeyasekharan College of Nursing. Then prayer song followed by Tamil thai vazhthu was sung by the college choir. Dignitaries on the dais was invited to light the kuthuvilakku and the gatherings were welcomed by Dr Sarayu Priya Principal,
Dr Jeyasekharan College of Nursing. Chief guest address was given by Mr. Arvind, District collector, Kanyakumari district, followed by leprosy day oath was taken by the gatherings, it was guided by Dr Girija, Deputy director medical services (Leprosy) & Joint director (in charge) family welfare. Dr Pragaladhan. Deputy director of medical services (Tuberculosis) given a note regarding leprosy, followed by Dr. Praveen, Dermatologist, Dr Jeyasekharan medical trust presented about management of leprosy.

Programs were organized by college of nursing like puppet show, Drama (both programs were given a note regarding leprosy management to the gatherings). Intercollege Quiz and Rangoli competition were held and prizes were distributed for the students, and 3 patient beneficiaries by the collector. Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Madamuthu finally the program end up with National Anthem.
