World Heart Day Celebration – 2025

World Heart Day is observed globally on 29th September each year to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, their prevention, and the importance of maintaining heart health. To commemorate this occasion, the Department of Cardiology & Cardiothoracic Surgery of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust, in collaboration with the College of Allied Health Sciences and Nursing Departments, organized the World Heart Day Celebration – 2025 with the theme: “Don’t Miss a Beat.” On 29th September 2025 at Hospital Auditorium.

The celebration comprised Pre-Event programmes, student competitions, and a formal main event with academic sessions, all designed to spread awareness and encourage healthy lifestyle practices.

Pre-Event Programmes (29th September 2025, Morning Session)

The day began with engaging activities conducted at the hospital premises to promote preventive cardiology and wellness among patients and visitors:

  • 10:00 AM – Free Blood Pressure Check-up: Conducted at the OPD and D Block (3rd Floor), the check-up aimed at early detection of hypertension, a major risk factor for heart disease.
  • 11:00 AM – Presentation on Prevention of Coronary Artery Diseases: Delivered by Mr. Godferin Jebaraj S, Ms. JinishaM, Ms. Andrea Harshini S., and Ms. Gobika R. (3rd year B.Sc. Cardiac Technology, College of Allied Health Sciences), the session educated attendees on lifestyle modifications, diet, and preventive strategies.
  • 11:30 AM – Zumba Dance: Ms. Eswari, OTAT Intern, led a lively Zumba session demonstrating the role of physical activity in maintaining cardiovascular health.

Student Competitions (20th September 2025)

As part of the World Heart Day celebrations, creative competitions were organized

  • Quiz Competition tested students’ knowledge on Cardiology.
  • Face Painting Competition, where students expressed messages of awareness and prevention through art.

Short Film Competition on the theme “Don’t Miss A Beat”, where students produced impactful videos highlighting awareness, prevention, and timely care.

Main Event Programmes (29th September 2025, Afternoon Session)

The formal function commenced at 12:00 Noon at the JMT Auditorium with a Prayer Song by the College Choir.

  • Welcome Address – Ms. Sulaiha Shifa R , B.Sc. Cardiac Technology, Tutor, College of Allied Health Sciences.
  • This was followed by a felicitation ceremony, where the leadership of the institution honored the occasion with their gracious presence. The Trustees – Dr. Sabu Jeyasekharan, Dr. Devaprasath Jeyasekharan, and Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan – along with the Administrators – Dr. Renu Devaprasath and Mrs. Beena Sabu – extended their warm wishes and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cardiac care.
  • The World Heart Day observance commenced with an enlightening keynote session by Dr. Chandra Kumar Immanuel, MD, DM (Cardiology), Interventional Cardiologist, who unfolded the theme of the year, emphasizing the importance of preventive cardiology and lifestyle modification for a healthier tomorrow.
  • A special Department of Cardiology Timeline and Video Presentation showcased the milestones, achievements, and progress of the department, highlighting its dedication to excellence in patient care and innovation.

 

The academic segment featured a series of insightful talks and creative presentations, focusing on diverse aspects of cardiovascular health:

  • Heart Health – by Dr. Celina Dominic, MBBS, DNB (General Medicine), who elaborated on the fundamentals of maintaining a healthy heart through preventive practices and lifestyle interventions.
  • Short Film Screening – Students presented an engaging film titled “Don’t Miss A Beat”, creatively spreading awareness on timely recognition and response to cardiac emergencies.
  • Recognizing Warning Signs & Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases – by Dr. Prasant H.A., MBBS, DNB (General Medicine), who stressed the importance of early detection and preventive measures in reducing cardiovascular risk.
  • Don’t Miss A Beat – by Dr. Subbiaan, MBBS, MD (PMR), Consultant, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, who highlighted the role of physical activity and rehabilitation in promoting cardiac wellness.
  • Mental Health and Heart Health – by Dr. Sanjana Bhagavathy, MBBS, MD (Psychiatry), Consultant Psychiatrist, who emphasized the intricate connection between psychological well-being and cardiovascular outcomes.

The program seamlessly combined scientific knowledge, creative communication, and institutional commitment, making the World Heart Day celebration a meaningful platform for awareness, education, and inspiration.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of the Short Film, Quiz, and Face Painting Competitions, acknowledging the students’ creativity and enthusiasm in promoting heart health awareness.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Fathima Mirfath, B.Sc. Cardiac Technology, Tutor, College of Allied Health Sciences, who expressed gratitude to the management, faculty, speakers, and students. Special recognition was given to the Nursing and Allied Health Departments for their vital role in making the event a success.

Finally, the event ended with the National Anthem.

The collaborative efforts of the Cardiology Department, Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit, Nursing Staff, and Allied Health Sciences ensured the success of the programme, inspiring participants to take proactive steps toward maintaining a healthy heart.
