The department of OG was started by Dr. Jeyasekharan and assisted by sister Anselina.

1Complex cases were managed by Dr. Sumithra Raguvaran and Dr. Indira Surendran. In 1990 Dr. Annie Chandra joined and took incharge of OG OPD. Dr. Meenambika upgraded the department in 1995 and was joined by Dr. Geetha Narayanan in 1998, subsequently by Dr. Maya in 2002.

2Many younger Gynecologist like Dr. Shameema and Dr. Beaula helped them. High risk obstetrics and infertility care were started by Dr. Geetha and Dr. Maya. A specialized infertility care centreDSC_2473 og was started recently by Dr. Selva Priya. In this department specialized infertility treatment and fetal medicine is offered to the patients.

3We have a well staffed department focussing on safe obstetric care for mothers and also performing a wide range of gynaecological surgery.

4Infertility is another area that is focussed on in the department. This department has been operational since 1967 and has steadily grown since then with increasing facilities.

Staffing:

There is a well equipped labour room with facilities to conduct 6 deliveries simultaneously. There are separate first stage, second stage, postnatal & neonatal sections. Facilities to manage emergencies like APH, PPH, Ecclampsia, preterm labour, etc are also well set up.
For pregnant women; antenatal checkups, cardio-tocography, continuous antepartum and intrapartum foetal monitoring are available
Fully equipped theatres are available for caesarean sections along with neonatal resusatative care by paediatricians. Supportive services like laboratory, blood bank, ultrasound scans are available in the hospital all the time.
Approximately 1250 deliveries are conducted per annum of which about 60% are normal vaginal or assisted vaginal deliveries.
The outpatient department offers preventive and therapeutic care for a wide range of conditions
For infertility patients: Counseling, investigation of both parents tests and procedures like semen analysis, ultrasound scan, hysterosalpongo graphy, diagnostic laparoscopy, hysteroscopy are done. Treatment modalities like laparoscopy, intra uterine insemination including sperm bank, myomectomy etc. are available.
For women with excessive menstrual bleeding, various options are available here including:
Screening for cancer of the cervix is routinely carried out by pap smear.
