World Anaesthesia Day Celebration – 2025

World Anaesthesia Day is commemorated every year to honor the first successful demonstration of Ether anaesthesia on October 16, 1846. This year, Dr.Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home, in collaboration with the Dr.Jeyasekharan College of Allied Health Sciences, celebrated the occasion with great enthusiasm, focusing on the theme “Anaesthesiology in Health Emergencies.” The celebration recognized the vital role of anaesthesiologists in managing crises, trauma care, emergency surgeries, and life-saving procedures.
Pre-Event Student Competitions (October 10, 2025)
To encourage student engagement and promote awareness of the theme, a series of competitions — Quiz, Painting, and Skit — were organized before the main event. Students from the Allied Health Sciences and the College of Nursing participated enthusiastically. The winning paintings were showcased during the main event.
Main Event Highlights (October 16, 2025, at 4:00 PM)
The formal celebration began at 4:00 PM at the JMT Hospital Auditorium with a vibrant inaugural ceremony with Dr.Rajkumar, Chief Guest(President of Tamil Nadu State, Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists)
Opening Ceremony
- Prayer Song: Performed by the College of Allied Health Sciences Choir
- Welcome Address: Lettishia G., Anaesthesia Technician Tutor
- Lighting of the Kuthuvilakku: Marking the traditional inauguration by the dignitaries and faculty.
Felicitation & Honors
- Felicitations were delivered by SabuJeyasekharan, Trustee, Dr.RanjitJeyasekharan, Trustee, and Dr.RenuDevaprasath, Medical Administrator and HOD, Department of Anaesthesia.
- Distinguished contributors to the Anaesthesiology Department – RenuDevaprasath, Dr.Gnanamony S., and Sr. RoseletChelleppam — were honored for their dedicated service in strengthening and streamlining anaesthesia care at the institution.
Unveiling Theme and Department Timeline Presentation
Dr.AnandKarthik S., MBBS, D.A., Consultant Anaesthesiologist, unveiled the World Anaesthesia Day 2025 theme, followed by an insightful presentation by Dr. Geo Navin Jude, D.A., DNB (Anaesthesia), on the History and Timeline of the Department of Anaesthesia at Dr.Jeyasekharan Hospital.
Guest Address
The Chief Guest, Dr. S.A. Rajkumar, MD (Anaesthesia), President, ISA Tamil Nadu, was introduced by Dr.NishalPerumal S., MD (Anaesthesia), Consultant Anaesthesiologist, and delivered an inspiring address highlighting the evolving role of anaesthesiologists in healthcare emergencies.
Cultural Segment
- Cake Cutting Ceremony: Celebrating the spirit of World Anaesthesia Day and sharing happiness among team members.
- Skit Performance (by B.Sc. OTAT I Year – Skit Contest Winners): A meaningful and engaging performance depicting emergency cases handled by anaesthesiologists and emphasizing the importance of patient contribution and involvement in their own care.
- Mime Performance (by B.Sc. OTAT Interns): A silent yet impactful act portraying the unseen but vital role of anaesthesiologists in different health emergencies. The meaningful and informative performances were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
Prize Distribution
Certificates and cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the pre-event competitions by Dr. S.A. Rajkumar, Dr.RenuDevaprasath, and Dr.Aneeta Alexis.
Experiential Talk & BLS Hands-on Practice
- Aravindan V., MBBS, DNB (Anaesthesia) shared his valuable insights during a session titled “My Experiences as an Anaesthesiologist.”
- Following this, a Basic Life Support (BLS) demonstration and hands-on practice session was conducted by the Department of Anaesthesia, along with AHA-certified BLS & ACLS Instructors Jeyalakshmi and Mrs. Lettishia. The session provided students with practical exposure to essential life-saving skills and reinforced the importance of emergency preparedness in clinical settings.
Conclusion
The celebration concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr.Nivetha K., MBBS, MD, DNB (Anaesthesia), who expressed her gratitude to the management, guests, organizing team, staff, and students.
