This is a new department in the making, coming into its own in an age where its importance is finally being realised.
1
The department aims to help alleviate suffering and ease the process of death for patients with a wide range of incurable conditions- both malignant and otherwise.
2
The team consists of a Palliative Physician, trained nursing staff and a clinical psychologist. The objectives are in terms of respite and terminal care of patients who require it in co-ordination with other clinical units of the hospital.
3
These are achieved through counselling sessions and effective pain management. To this end we have obtained a license to distribute oral morphine for patients with malignant pain. Home visits are being planned.
