Introduction
World Malaria Day is observed every year on 25th April to raise awareness about malaria prevention, control, and treatment. On this occasion, the B.Sc. Nursing 4th year students organized an educational programme that included a PowerPoint presentation and a quiz competition to improve awareness and knowledge regarding malaria among the participants on 28\04\2026.
Objectives
- To create awareness about malaria and its prevention.
- To educate participants about the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of malaria.
- To encourage preventive measures for controlling mosquito breeding.
- To assess participants’ knowledge through a quiz programme.
Programme Details
- PowerPoint Presentation
The programme began with a PowerPoint presentation conducted by Mr. Jeffrey Daniel, B.Sc. Nursing 4th Year student. The presentation covered the following topics:
- Introduction to malaria
- Causes and mode of transmission
- Signs and symptoms
- Diagnostic tests
- Treatment and management
- Preventive measures
- Importance of environmental cleanliness and mosquito control
The presentation was informative and interactive. PowerPoint presentation was used to make the session more effective and understandable. Participants actively listened and clarified their doubts during the session.
- Quiz Competition
After the presentation, a quiz competition was conducted by Mr. Jeganlal, to evaluate the participants’ understanding of the topic. Participants were divided into three groups and questions were asked regarding malaria transmission, symptoms, prevention, vaccination and treatment.
Participants answered enthusiastically, and the quiz created an engaging learning environment. Small appreciation was given to the winners to encourage active participation
Outcome of the Programme
- Participants gained knowledge regarding malaria prevention and management.
- Awareness about mosquito control and personal hygiene increased among the audience.
- The quiz helped reinforce the information shared during the presentation.
- The programme improved communication and teaching skills among the nursing students.
Conclusion
The World Malaria Day programme organized by the B.Sc. Nursing 4th Year students was successful in spreading awareness about malaria and its prevention. The PowerPoint presentation and quiz competition were informative, interactive, and well appreciated by the participants. Such programmes play an important role in promoting community health awareness and preventive healthcare practices.
