World TB Day is celebrated on March 24 to commemorate the date in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium causing tuberculosis. This discovery opened the way for diagnosing and curing the disease, and the day aims to raise awareness about the global TB epidemic.
The World Tuberculosis Day 2026 theme, announced by the World Health Organization (WHO), is “Yes! We can end TB: Led by countries, powered by people”. This theme emphasizes national leadership, community empowerment, and the urgent need to speed up progress, roll out new vaccines, and ensure access to rapid diagnostic tools to turn the tide against the epidemic.
The World Tuberculosis Day event was conducted by BSc(N) IV year students on 24-04-2026 at around 02:00 pm in the IV Year classroom. Ms. Abisherine, B.Sc(N) IV year, welcomed the gathering. A role play was done by IV-year BSc(N) students, about the importance of this day. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Mahima, BSc(N) IV year.
