World Autism Day 2022

Dr.Jeyasekharan College of Nursing Report of the World Autism Awareness day Program

The World Autism Awareness day Program started at around 11 am in the hospital auditorium. Our Management, Doctors, Nursing superintendent, Occupational Therapist, Speech therapist, Clinical counselor from Dr.Jeyaekharan Hospital and Nursing home were present for the event. Faculty and III year B.Sc. Nursing students from Dr.Jeyaekharan college of Nursing organized the event. Children with Autism from Shanti Nilayam were welcomed. Special school teachers and around 23 children participated along with their parents.

Master of ceremony was done by Ms.Cathrine, III-year B.Sc. Nursing student. The event started with Prayer song by the college choir. Welcome address was delivered by Ms. Harini Priya., 3rd Year. Unveiling the theme for the World Autism Awareness day “Inclusive Quality Education for All” was done by Dr. Sarayu Priya, Principal, Dr.Jeysaekharan College of Nursing. Presidential address was given by our Trustee Dr. Renjith Jeyasekharan. Sessions were planned for parents and activities were given concurrently for the autistic children. The activities were organized by Mr. Binni, Associate Professor. Children actively participated and were supported by the Nursing students.

First session on Autism was planned by the team from Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital and Nursing home. A special video was created with clips on “Autism Rehabilitation”. Ms.Indumathy, Occupational Therapist., Ms.Abi Monisha, Speech Therapist and Mr. George, Clinical Counselor presented the session. Second session on “Available resources” was dealt by Dr.Golden Catherine, HOD cum Associate Professor, Department of Mental Health Nursing. Parents and the special school teachers participated with full enthusiasm. Queries were taken and were clarified

Special gifts were given to children as a token of love and motivation for their active participation. A pamphlet on Autism (Tamil and English) was prepared by Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing in collaboration with Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital and Nursing home. It was distributed to parents and teachers. An awareness program through Health education on Autism was given to the patient and their visitors near the OPD Block by Ms.Helina Jincy, III Year. Pamphlets were also distributed to the parents of children admitted in the pediatric ward.

Vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Jemima 3rd Year B.Sc. Nursing. Program concluded with National Anthem.
