Leprosy Eradication Day Report 2025
On January 30, 2025, Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing observed Leprosy Eradication Day, aligning with India’s annual commemoration on Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary. The theme for this year was “Unite. Act. Eliminate.”, emphasizing collective action to raise awareness, address challenges faced by those affected, and work towards eliminating leprosy.
Quiz Competition Achievement
Prior to the observance, on January 26, 2025, a Quiz Competition was organized by the Deputy Director of Medical Services (Leprosy) at Kanyakumari Medical College, Muttom. Two students from Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing, Ms. Jersilin and Ms. Subha Shree, participated and secured the third prize at the district level, bringing recognition to the institution.
Awareness Skit at Primary Health Centre, Vadaserry
On January 30, 2025, 30 fifth-semester students from Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing visited the Primary Health Centre in Vadaserry to conduct an awareness program. The students performed a skit to educate the public on various aspects of leprosy, including:
* Stigma and misconceptions
* Signs and symptoms
* Importance of early detection
* Availability of treatment and cure
* Government benefits and support for affected individuals
The skit effectively conveyed the message of “Unite. Act. Eliminate.”, highlighting the significance of early diagnosis, treatment, and social acceptance. The audience received the performance positively, contributing to increased public awareness and support in the fight against leprosy.
