Social Justice And Human Rights Awareness Program

On June 6th, 2025, an Awareness Program on Human Justice and Human Rights was conducted as a part of the SNA student welfare activities at the Dr. Jeyasekharan College Auditorium. The session was organized by the Department of Social Justice and Human Rights, SP Office, Nagercoil, attended by the students and faculty of Dr. Jeyasekharan College of Nursing. The resource persons were Sub-Inspector Mrs.Hemalatha, Special Sub-Inspector Mr. Jebaraj, and Statistical Inspector Mr. Balakrishnan.

The session aimed to educate and sensitize nursing students on the fundamental concepts of social justice and its importance in protecting human rights in all walks of life. The program began with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr.Sarayu Priya, principal of Dr.Jeyasekharencollege of Nursing. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of upholding social justice and human rights in both personal and professional life. The speakers emphasized the role of law enforcement in upholding justice and the responsibilities of citizens in ensuring equality and dignity for all.

The program focused on creating awareness about various helplines and legal protections available for the public:

  • Cyber-crime reporting – Dial 1930
  • Sexual harassment at workplace – Call 181
  • Drug abuse-related complaints – WhatsApp: 81222 23319

In addition, the officers discussed tribal educational support, the availability of educational loans for needy students, and the importance of legal literacy among youth.

The session concluded with an aptitude quiz, where students actively participated. Selected students were recognized and rewarded with gifts as encouragement for their enthusiasm and participation.

A student from the 3rd year of B.Sc. Nursing gave the feedback enthusiastically, expressing gratitude to the police officials for their valuable insights and the college for arranging such an informative event. The feedback highlighted how the session enhanced students’ awareness about social responsibilities and legal resources.

To conclude the event, Dr. Sarayu Priya, Principal, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing deep appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the program. She acknowledged the collaborative effort that brought the program to life and encouraged everyone to carry forward the message of justice, fairness, and human dignity in their everyday lives and nursing practice.

Overall, the program was interactive, educational, and motivating for all the attendees.
