World Kidney Day Celebration – 2024
The World Kidney day was celebrated at Dr.Jeyasekharan Hospital & Nursing Home with the Theme of “Kidney Health for All” on Thursday, 14.03.2024 to create awareness about Kidney disease and its prevention. The programme was organized by College of Allied Health Sciences.
The awareness programme started at 11 am and the programme was inaugurated by Dr. Ranjit Jeyasekharan, Trustee, Dr.Jeyasekharan Medical Trust. Followed by the Health Talk on “Common Kidney Disease and Causes” & “ Prevention of Kidney Diseases and Ways to protect the kidney ” was presented to the OPD patients by the B.Sc. Dialysis Technology 2nd year students Mr. Anish , Ms.Gohisha and Ms.Asha.
Followed by health talk, The Therapeutic diet Display and Millets Carnival was started around 12 pm near the Dialysis unit and inaugurated by Dr. Ninoo George, Consultant Nephrologist, Dr. Namrata Jeyaharan, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist, Mrs. Jeyalakshmi, Vice Principal and Mrs. Subila Jasphine, Dialysis Dept in charge.
The purpose of the carnival is to include millet in the daily diet of the people and to create awareness about its nutritional value. It also have a special millet food court, Where common citizens will be able to relish the delicious dishes made from millets such as Ragi Cake, Wheat chocolate cake,Thinnai Laddu, Kambu Laddu, Millet Kheer, Kambu Curd Rice, Varagu Sambar Rice, Thinai Chicken Briyani, Onion Raitha, Cucumber Salad, Wheat Onion pakoda, Thinai Sweet Pongal, Kuthiraivali Veg Pulav , Thinai Sweet Payasam, Wheat butter cookies, Corn Potato Cutlet which was totally prepared by the students of Department of Dialysis Technology.
Under diet display for kidney diseases students have prepared diets for Chronic Kidney Disease, Renal Stone, Nephrotic Syndrome and Hypertension condition and these diets are displayed for patients and their relatives to create awareness on diet for kidney disease.
The Programme gave an opportunity for students to experience the taste of ancient food in varieties. In 6 stalls, the students offered 16 dishes. It created a good impact on the students where they learned to work in team.
The world kidney day competitions (Poster, Painting, Vegetable carving and Rangoli) were conducted on 7.03.2024 at college auditorium and Prizes were distributed for students on “Vascular Access Workshop” conducted on 24.3.2024. By concluding this report, I thank all the organizers, those who work hard for this World Kidney day Programme.
